Press Release
October 2013, Los Angeles— At FIAC, Cherry and Martin presents new and selected works by Mari Eastman in a context with rare and previously unseen works by Robert Heinecken (1931-2006) and Robert Overby (1935-1993).
All three artists -- Eastman, Heinecken, and Overby – deal with the mutability of images, especially those found in a media-driven culture. Eastman, Heinecken and Overby represent the expanded approach to the photographic object evident not only in Los Angeles but also in contemporary art globally.
Mari EASTMAN’s work has been seen in museum exhibitions at such institutions as the Berkeley Art Museum (Berkeley, CA); Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, CA); Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, CA); Museum Morsbroich (Leverkusen, Germany); and the Kunstverein Oldenburg (Oldenburg, Germany).
Robert HEINECKEN’s touring retrospective opens at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in March 2014 and travels to the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles in October. A separate solo exhibition of Heinecken's work will open at Wiels in Brussels in May 2014.
Robert OVERBY’s European touring retrospective opens at the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva in January 2014 and tours to the Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Bergamo in April and the Bergen Kunsthall in Norway in September. Overby's long out of print ‘red book’ (1969-1973) has just been reissued by JRP Ringier this fall.
